Ramblings about my two favorite kids

Whac-a-mole!

Grandmommie and Grandaddy came to visit this weekend and brought with a new game for the kids - anything with lights, sound, and authorized hitting devices is sure to be a hit!

Perhaps Grandmommie should have read the directions to them before she let them have the clubs. (Though at least Sadie appears to be paying attention.)
Sam was quite entertained when the moles would say "Missed me!"
Two clubs are better than one!

They probably won't let me check this piece of luggage

We are getting just a little bit excited around here for our trip to see my brother and sister-in-law's new baby next week.

(The kids and I, that is. Poor Daddy has to stay home and work.)

This is why I am tired at night.

Because it seems like every single statement I make results in a conversation of this sort:

Me: Sam - eat your carrots.
Sam: Why?
Me: Because they are healthy.
Sam: How?
Me: They help your eyes.
Sam: How?
Me: They help you see better.
Sam: Because if we don't eat them our eyeballs will just fall out?
Me: No. They just help you see better.
Sam: Because if we don't eat them the black part will just get darker and darker?
Me: No. They just help you see better.
Sam: Because if we don't eat them our eyes will get crooked?
Me: No. Just eat them. Please.
Sam: What will happen?
Me: They just help you see better, okay?
Sam: OK.

I did it!

I feel like singing the "I did it, I did it, I did it, hooray!" song from Dora.

(And for those of you that don't know that little ditty - you aren't missing much.)

This post is for the benefit of my brothers, who I desparately wished were here the other day when Sam pulled out his lego set he got for Christmas. We managed to get 3 of the items put together while still with them at Christmas, but the rest of it was left to me. I managed to put Sam off for a while, then we went to Tasmania and did not pack any legos, but now that we are back there was no more avoiding it.

It's taken us a couple days (hard to find time and patience when Sadie and the dog are both quite interested if they happen to be around) but we finally got it all done.
See - Gus loves to play too!

The house above is shown after my 10th repair job of the day. I asked Sam what kept happening to the house (and got corrected - "It is a SHOP, Mom!") and traced it back to the fact that Sam was using it as an airplane - an airplane with a very BAD pilot.

After finding all the pieces except for the chimney, I sent Sam on a search for those three little pieces.

"They're in my hand, Mom."

"Why are they in your hand?"

"They're the weapon."

Boys.

Now if only there was some sort of lego glue to protect my hard work from my son and keep them together forever.....

Yuck!

Sadie cooked me some lunch while I cooked hers the other day. I wasn't paying much attention until I heard her yell "YUCK!" and then dissolve into fits of giggles (along with Sam.) Repeatedly.

Hi Mom - I'm cooking you some lunch!
Doesn't it look yummy? A nice Sponge Bob ball (that I have NO idea how it got in my house since I am not a fan of that show) and a steaming hot pair of sunglasses. (Apparently no one told Sadie it's not safe to microwave forks...)
YUCK!

So glad I got Barb!

I am extermely thankful for my mother.

She has taught me that life is not fair, but God is still taking care of me.

She has made me realize that "In light of eternity....." many things in this life really don't matter that much.

She has comforted me when I was upset, reminding me that things always seem worse at night. In the morning, most things are at least a little bit more hopeful.

She has taught me to tell the truth, but that it doesn't always mean telling everything you know.

She has shown me that being hospitable is just as important in showing God's love as preaching a sermon is.

And finally - though probably not most importantly - it is because of my mom that I think leftover chocolate pie is a perfectly acceptable breakfast.

I pray my children will learn the same.
(All of the above - not just the chocolate pie part.)

Happy May Day!

The kids were greeted this morning with a ring of the doorbell and May baskets on the doorstep. (Compliments of their dad.)

I asked Sam if he knew that today was a special day (May Day, that is). He responded, "I thought it was going to be..."

Both kids dug into the the popcorn, excited at the prospect of eating it for breakfast.

And then they discovered the candy!
