Ramblings about my two favorite kids

Think somebody is glad Joe's home again?

Sadie's prayer tonight:

Dear God,

Don't step in the mud.

Don't put too many pencils in the bowl.

Don't touch peoples when you at the airport.

And don't go to Indiana.

Don't go to Indiana.

Don't go to Indiana.

Don't go to Indiana.

Don't go to Indiana.

Don't go to Indiana.

Don't go to Indiana.

Don't go to Indiana.

Don't go to Indiana.

Don't go to Indiana.

Don't go to Indiana.

Don't go to Indiana.

In Jesus' name.

Amen-y!

It's MY turn!

Finally.

The day she has been waiting for.

Her first day at her new school - preschool has begun!

She had a great day with a new teacher and lots of new friends.

Her report:

I did centers and I played. I did puzzles. I had snack - it was pretzels and juice-y!

As I thought back to last year and how little she was able to tell me about what she did during the day (for most of the year) I was beaming with joy over how much she has grown and matured in a year's time.

Mr. Efficient

In order to get his homework done a little faster, Sam decided he would put a crayon in each hand.

That broken arm was good for something - he's still a bit ambidextrous.

And really...homework in Kindergarten? What has this world come to?

The grass is always greener

Sam started Kindergarten August 18.

Sadie didn't.

It is now September 2.

Every day when we drop off Sam:
"Do I go my school today?"

and

"I wish her school started and mine didn't. Can I just stay home and play?"

But there is is light at the end of the tunnel.

Preschool starts after Labor Day.

Then she'll be happy she's at school, he'll be happy he's not missing playtime, and I'll be happy to be all by myself!

We had meet and greet with her teacher today. You can tell this isn't her first year of preschool, as the only picture I managed to remember to take was of her sitting in the office as we checked in. And that was only because the mom of a neighborhood friend got her camera out to take a picture of the girls together and the only way Sadie would smile (actually - even look in the direction of the camera) was to pull out my camera.

But hey - I get points for having the camera in my purse, don't I?
Let's hope her teacher is ready for our little firecracker!

One happy family

For the part 2 months, Joe has been working out of town Monday through Friday.

Not fun.

For anyone.

He spent his evenings going to movies, eating out, and trying to entertain himself in a hotel room 4 nights a week.
(Okay....maybe a little fun for him. I will admit a week or so of that sounded pretty good to me.....)

But it got old. Especially when he'd call home and I could barely find a minute to talk uninterrupted.

Not so fun to listen to your family having a fun time without you.
(He did get to listen to quite a few meltdowns over the phone too....not fun either.)

And not so fun to be the one in charge of the fun (and the meltdowns) without any backup.

The kids missed him a lot - the first words out of Sadie's mouth every morning this week were "I need my Daddy."

We are much better together.

So thankful this was a temporary thing....

We did learn a few things:

- Bedtime if MUCH easier with 2 adults in the house.
(Not that I didn't know that already, but it was reaffirmed. Again. And again. And again.)

- I can't make funny faces, sing songs, or give haircuts as well as my husband.

- We need a bigger bed, as each of us is now used to having a queen-size bed all to ourselves.

- Left to my own devices, I would become a late-night reality show junkie. I now know WAY more than I need to about Bill & Guiliana and Tia & Tamira.

- I can't blame the usual messy state of our home entirely on Joe.

- Saying the word "POO" solves everybody's bad moods, at least temporarily.

But today was his last day. To say the kids were overjoyed when we picked him up at the car rental place would be an understatement. They made him sit in the back of the van with them. Sam held onto his arm and rested his head on it the whole ride. We went out to eat and Sam was in his lap most of the meal.

The kids made this poster on Monday morning, as soon as they knew this was the last week. I told them they could wait a couple days, but Sam insisted that we do it right away because he was so excited.
(It says "Happy last day of Indiana Dad!" Sam even spelled all the words (other than Indiana) by himself!)

And there ends my excuse for not blogging so much this summer. By the end of the day all I wanted to do was lay in my bed and watch TV and not think about anything. So - I'm hoping I'll have renewed energy to get caught up on everything we did this summer! Feel free to harass me if I don't get back at it....

There's no place like home!

Because every superhero needs a pair of ruby slippers! (and perhaps a pair of safety goggles....)

First Day of Kindergarten!

Wow...I have not updated the blog for a looooong time! I will catch up on summer later - here's photos from Sam's big day.
