God's Purple Pickup

We have recently been trying to have more intentional conversations with Sam about his adoption story, as well as about God and Jesus. (Not necessarily one conversation about both - just more conversations about each of the topics.)

One night we were talking about how we got Sadie in China when she a "big baby" and we got Sam at the hospital when he was a "teeny, tiny baby." We had told him earlier that we had prayed and prayed for a baby and God gave him to us because he needed a mommy and a daddy and we wanted to be a mommy and a daddy.

Sam: Was I with God before I was at the hospital?
Me: Yes, I guess you could say that.
Sam: In his house?
Me: Sure........
Sam: And then I drove in Daddy's red truck to come get you?
Me: Well, actually we drove in Mommy's car to get you at the hospital where you were born.
Sam: Oh. But God brought me to the hospital so you could get me. He drove me all the way in his truck.
Me: Really? Does God have a red truck like Daddy?
Sam: No - his truck is purple.

Then today we were reading out of his Bible story book and we read about how God made all the animals.

Sam: Then God brought all the animals to the zoo - in his truck.
Me: Ok.
Sam: Just like he brought me and Sadie.
Me: Ok.
Sam: But where did he put our carseats?
Me: Ummm......probably in the back seat.
Sam: Oh. But God's other friend drove us. God sat by me and Sadie.
